Competition Team

Welcome to The Rinks Artistic Skating Team! Our year-round group classes are designed to train dance and freeskating skills while building camaraderie amongst the members of our competitive club. In our Comp Team Class, we continue our commitment to helping our students develop strength, artistry discipline and community in a fun and positive environment.

Competitive Team students participate in one 2-hour long, weekly class comprised of Conditioning, Freeskating, and Dance. These classes are taken with all levels of competitive athletes as we all work to strengthen our fundamentals and drill our core skills. Additionally, Comp Team students are eligible to take 2-4 hours of private lessons per week with one of our instructors.

Our emphasis on group based training comes from the idea that the only way for us to grow is to grow together. Camaraderie is the cornerstone of our competitive club. We skate with each other and we support each other through every step of the competitive season!

Freeskating

Freeskating is what one typically thinks of when they hear “figure skating.” This discipline is comprised of technical elements such as jumps, spins, and footwork all strategically placed in two programs: a short and a long. Additionally, skaters are judged on performance, skating skills, and choreography. This event is competed on quads and inlines. In our Comp Team Class, we will refine freeskating skills through drills, repetition and off skates exercises to reinforce spin and jump positions.

Dance

Dance is similar to Ballroom in that skaters perform a variety of steps to different rhythms, tempos and styles of musics. They perform compulsories, which are a predetermined pattern of steps set on the floor, and a freedance, which is a routine that gives choreographers and skaters the freedom to create their own patterns and steps. In our Comp Team Class, we will perform a variety of drills to master the necessary steps required to be a well rounded dance skater and spend time perfecting our performance.

Dry Land

Dry Land Class will help your skaters improve their strength/stability, increase their body awareness and expand their range of motion through a variety of off skates exercises. Yoga mats/towels highly recommended.
